Here is the adit that transfers the water from the pumping station (centre of the Gouley pit) into the Wurm. The tunnel was probably used as a conveyor tunnel 200 to 300 years ago. I drank the water from the spring next door decades ago as a child and survived.

Cycling

In the worm valley there is still a tunnel mouth hole from Gouley. The tunnel, which was built in 1837, is originally used for the extraction and lastly the drainage of the pit. In Würselen itself, the “Gouleystraße” and the “Gouleypark” keep the memory of the pit alive.

You can get there well by trekking or touring bike over the Knopp, but the other ways are better to be driven with more suitable bikes.

Adit mouth of the Gouley mine. "Gouley" is a variation of the term "Gute Ley", which means something like "Good (rich) mountain". Mine water is still discharged here today in order to relieve the mine water from the Alsdorfer Grube Anna2!
