    Mountain biking

This trail begins along a paved fire road before it becomes a smooth, wide dirt road ascending slightly uphill with several singletrack options that branch off to the right along the way. It is a popular route for hikers and runners with plenty of room to pass, making it an excellent location for anyone learning to mountain bike. With no rugged terrain or technical obstacles to navigate, you can enjoy a scenic ride through the picturesque hills without distractions.

Mezue, San Pablo Ridge, and Belgum Trail Loop

The Mezue, San Pablo Ridge, and Belgum Trail Loop offers a dynamic mountain biking experience with a mix of surfaces and stunning Bay Area vistas. You'll navigate everything from paved fire roads to wide dirt tracks and even some singletrack options. The climb up the Mezue Trail provides great views of Wildcat Canyon, while the San Pablo Ridge Trail truly delivers with its panoramic outlooks over the San Francisco Bay and surrounding hills. It's an easy 6.8-mile (11.0 km) loop, but don't be surprised by some steep sections on the ridge that add a fun challenge to the 970 feet (296 metres) of elevation gain.

Planning your ride here means considering the seasons; the Mezue Trail can get very muddy in winter, making some parts tricky. The exposed sections along San Pablo Ridge, especially at the 360-degree viewpoint, mean you'll want to bring plenty of water on sunny days. This route is popular, so an early start can help you enjoy the trails and views with fewer people, and you can expect to complete it in about 1 hour and 8 minutes.

This loop is nestled within the expansive 2,428-acre Wildcat Canyon Regional Park, a hub for outdoor activities. The wide trails make it suitable for mixed use, so you'll share the path with hikers and runners. There's even talk of a dedicated "Mezue Flow Trail" in development, which could bring a unique mountain bike-specific experience to this East Bay park network in the future.
