The Shell Pond Trail circles around the reservoir. You can create a total loop by using the dirt, double-track Shell Pond Road to connect the two trailheads for the singletrack path. You get a couple great views of this large pond from the trail.

Set out for a moderate jogging experience on the Shell Pond Loop Trail, a 3.6 miles (5.8 km) route that offers peaceful forest paths and views of Shell Pond. You'll gain 215 feet (66 metres) in elevation over an estimated 42 minutes, making it a good option for a quick, scenic run. As you jog, keep an eye out for the unique Stone House, an old structure with a stone facade that adds a touch of history to your outing. The trail winds through quiet woods, where you might even spot gnarled old apple trees or beavers near the pond's inlets. Depending on the season, you can enjoy either lush greenery or vibrant fall colors along the way.

Access to the Shell Pond Loop Trail is graciously permitted by private landowners, so please respect the area during your visit. You'll find parking generally available at the trailhead, making it convenient to start your jog. While the route is mostly flat, be mindful that fallen leaves during autumn can create slippery surfaces, requiring you to watch your footing. This trail is suitable for those seeking a less challenging jog, but always be prepared for changing conditions.

This loop is nestled within the beautiful White Mountain National Forest, offering a true immersion into nature. The presence of Shell Pond itself is a key highlight, providing a serene backdrop to your activity. The trail's unique blend of natural beauty, historical elements like the Stone House, and the chance to observe local wildlife such as beavers, makes it a distinctive choice in the region. It's a great way to experience the forest's charm without a strenuous climb.
