The Andrew Brook Trail offers a journey through varied terrain, starting with a gentle path alongside its namesake brook, complete with flowing water and mossy pools. As you ascend, the trail becomes steeper and rockier, leading you to the serene Lake Solitude, nestled at 2,500 feet above sea level. Just beyond the lake, the White Ledges overlook provides expansive panoramic views, a highlight for many hikers.
This moderate hike covers 5.7 miles (9.2 km) with 1537 feet (468 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking around 3 hours and 6 minutes. Be aware that sections can be muddy and wet, especially after rain, and brook crossings might be challenging during high water. The trail is dog-friendly, but always check conditions before heading out, particularly in colder months when ice and snow can make it more arduous.
Part of Mount Sunapee State Park, this trail is a gateway to the eastern side of Mount Sunapee, connecting with other major routes like the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway. Lake Solitude and the White Ledges are significant attractions, offering rewarding destinations even if you don't continue to the main summit. It's a great option for those seeking a well-rounded hiking experience with beautiful natural features.
