About a thousand years ago, the young dunes were formed by sand drift. They are much higher than the old dunes. The highest dune in the Netherlands is located in Schoorl - it is 53 meters high. There was an enormous sand plain between the village of Schoorl and the sea.

Hiking

The climbing dune is a beautiful place to start or end a beautiful walk. The dune area behind the climbing dune is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful dune areas in the Netherlands. At the foot of the climbing dune there are a few catering establishments where you can enjoy your walk.
