This house dates back to the 17th century. Apparently, during WW2 it was used by Winston Churchill for cabinet meetings. It was also where Brigadier General Sir Harold Hartley lived. He was a director of The Times, first chairman of British Airways, and Churchill's friend.

Embark on the Hughenden Estate Boundary and Views Loop, a moderate hiking route that takes you through varied landscapes of woodlands, open parkland, and farmland. You will cover 6.3 miles (10.1 km) with an elevation gain of 400 feet (122 metres), typically completing the journey in about 2 hours and 42 minutes. As you hike, you'll enjoy picturesque views of the Hughenden Valley and pass by the historic St Michael and All Angels Church, Hughenden, anchoring your experience in the local scenery.

When planning your visit, be aware that conditions can be muddy and slippery, especially after rain, so wear stout walking shoes or boots. While some sections have National Trust arrows, it is wise to carry a hand-held device or a printed map, as the trail is not fully waymarked. The route welcomes dogs, but please keep your dog on a lead when near cattle and sheep.

This trail offers a chance to explore the beautiful Chilterns countryside, revealing glimpses of Hughenden Manor and its ornamental lake. You will also encounter rolling hills along the Hughenden Stream. Keep an eye out for distant views of St Lawrence's Church and the Dashwood Mausoleum, adding historical context to your outdoor adventure.
