Embark on a difficult touring cycling journey along the Verzasca Valley Trail, a challenging ride that spans 32.5 miles (52.2 km) and climbs 3238 feet (987 metres). This route is estimated to take you 3 hours and 40 minutes to complete. As you pedal, you will follow the emerald-green Verzasca river, famous for its clear waters and unique rock formations. The trail offers panoramic views of dramatic mountain landscapes and takes you through charming villages with ancient stone buildings. A highlight is the medieval Ponte dei Salti bridge at Lavertezzo, with its distinctive double arches.

This difficult touring cycling route demands very good fitness due to its significant elevation gain. While much of the path is paved, be prepared for some unpaved sections that might require you to dismount and walk your bike. For added flexibility, post buses equipped with bicycle hangers are available, especially from Sonogno. You can use these services if you wish to shorten your ride or return by public transport, making it easier to manage the challenging distance.

The Verzasca Valley is renowned for its exceptionally clear, vibrant waters that have sculpted the rocks over time, creating a unique natural spectacle. Beyond the famous bridge, you can explore traditional stone houses and the rustic character of villages like Sonogno, which marks the end of the valley. This trail offers a deep dive into the region's natural beauty and cultural heritage, making it a notable experience for touring cyclists.
