Henning Voscherau (1941 – 2016) was Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg from 1988 to 1997 and during this time he set the course for the development of HafenCity, among other things. Henning-Voscherau-Platz is intended to commemorate the former mayor and honor his commitment to HafenCity.

Henning Voscherau (* August 13, 1941 in Hamburg, † August 24, 2016 there) was a German politician of the SPD.
The lawyer was Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg from 1988 to 1997.
Henning Voscherau was the son of the actor Carl Voscherau and Martha, née Lohmann (1906-1971), the nephew of the folk actor Walter Scherau (actually Walter Voscherau) and brother of Eggert Voscherau.
After graduating from high school in Oberalster, Henning Voscherau studied law and economics at the University of Hamburg.
In 1969 he received his doctorate.
