The globe fountain is the counterpart of the celestial fountain and thus fits into the perfect symmetry of the garden. Jets of water spray from the most important cities with which the Republic of the United Netherlands traded in the 17th century. This fountain shows the greatness of William III as ruler of the Republic. The Netherlands was then the country with the largest merchant fleet in the world. The celestial fountain and the globe fountain represent knowledge and power.
