Despite its name, the Gib's Loop Trail isn't actually a loop — although you can turn it into one with a little easy walking through town. But it does describe a loop around Mount Ogden Park, and serves as a lasting monument to Gilbert "Gib" Wallace, who surveyed and built many trails around Ogden.

Gib's Trail offers several chances to connect with other trails, including the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, along with some shade.

The Gib's Loop Trail offers a delightful escape into nature with diverse scenery, from shaded forests to open meadows. You'll enjoy impressive views of the surrounding area and even catch glimpses of a golf course, creating a unique backdrop. While the trail is an easy 3.0-mile (4.9 km) loop with a modest 321 feet (98 metres) of elevation gain, taking about 1 hour and 22 minutes, it also provides connections to the more strenuous Waterfall Canyon Trail, where a stunning waterfall awaits.

This family-friendly and dog-friendly route is easily accessible, with parks, playgrounds, and restrooms conveniently located near the trailheads. Be prepared for varied terrain, including dirt paths, rocky sections, and loose gravel, so sturdy hiking boots are recommended. In colder months, watch out for potential snow or ice, and be aware that some sections can get muddy, particularly on north-facing slopes.

Named in honor of Gilbert 'Gib' Wallace, who dedicated years to surveying and building trails in the Ogden hillside, this loop holds a special place in local history. It's a fantastic option for beginners or families, offering a taste of Utah's natural beauty without a demanding climb, and serves as a gateway to other popular routes like the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.
