Embark on an easy hiking route along the Caney Creek Falls Hiking Trail, a picturesque journey through a dense forest. You will navigate a path that is often rocky, leading you to the stunning 20 to 30-foot punchbowl waterfall. This cascade plunges into a shallow pool, offering a unique opportunity to walk directly behind the curtain of water. The trail covers 1.7 miles (2.8 km) with an elevation gain of 126 feet (38 metres), and most hikers complete it in about 44 minutes. Below the falls, a small canyon features moss-covered rocks, adding to the natural beauty of the area.
When planning your visit, be aware that parking for the Caney Creek Falls Hiking Trail has sometimes been confusing, and you might encounter situations requiring a fee or tip to local landowners for access. Navigation can also be tricky, as some sections of the trail might not be well-marked, so bringing a map or GPS is a good idea. Remember that the return trip from the falls involves a noticeable uphill climb as you exit the canyon.
Caney Creek Falls is a highlight within the William B. Bankhead National Forest, known for its unique geological features. In warmer months, the pool at the base of the falls becomes an inviting spot for swimming. Spring brings a display of showy wildflowers, while autumn transforms the trees with vibrant colors, making it a beautiful destination across different seasons.
