The Maerebrug or La Passerelle Maere is a steel fixed bridge built in 2013 for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The name comes from the Maerestraat, which was cut in two at the time by the construction of the Nieuwpoort-Dunkirk canal. Maere refers to 'mer' or 'mar' i.e. 'sea'.
The bridge is located on the border France - Belgium

The Nieuwpoort-Dunkirk Canal is a canal connecting the Belgian coastal town of Nieuwpoort with the French port of Dunkirk. It is part of a larger network of canals that connects the North Sea with the inland waterways of Belgium and France. It was built around 1630 by the Spanish, who then ruled Flanders. It is 32 km long and has one lock. It is used for both commercial and recreational shipping.
