The Mloder pond area got its name from the immediate vicinity and the district shares of the village of Mlode (Oberspreewald-Lausitz district), which is only 750m to the north-east. It includes the disused pond and adjoining forest areas of this district as well as the tributary region of the Kleptna including the grassland corridors that accompany it. Calau is about 1000 - 2000 m south of the protected area.
