    Hiking

Phase 3 of the Augie Trail takes hikers out past large striated rock formations by Coon's Cove and along the edge of the lake on a dirt singletrack. The best views of the lake are in colder months when the water is not obscured by trees.

    270m

Embark on the Augie Trail Loop Complete for a challenging hiking adventure through deep forests and past numerous rock outcroppings. This difficult route covers 16.7 miles (26.9 km) and involves a total elevation gain of 889 feet (271 metres). You will experience significant elevation changes, including impressive limestone cliffs and bluffs that overlook Lake Jacomo. Plan for a full day on the trail, as it typically takes around 8 hours and 12 minutes to complete. The rugged terrain offers a backcountry feel, reminiscent of trails found in the Ozarks.

Before you head out, always check for current trail conditions and any closures, particularly after heavy rain. The route can become very muddy, and it is best to avoid hiking it during those times to prevent damage. Parking is available at various access points, including the Liggett South Trailhead. Be aware that cell service can be spotty in some areas, and signage may be sparse, so bring a reliable map or use a navigation app to stay on track.

This extensive loop provides a diverse hiking experience within Fleming Park, offering a true escape into nature. During the colder months, when the trees shed their leaves, you can enjoy unobstructed views of Lake Jacomo, adding another dimension to the scenery. The trail's challenging nature and varied landscape make it a notable option for experienced hikers seeking a longer, more demanding outing in the region.
