In 1830, Jean-Hubert Cavens and his wife Anne-Elisabeth had the imposing building built as an orphanage. This remained in place until 1954. Then the boarding school Notre-Dame (technical school) was housed there. In 1986 the municipality of Malmedy bought the house, restored it and then used it for cultural purposes. Over time, the Municipal Library and the Regional Documentation Library were housed in the building. The paper and carnival museums existed there until 2004, but have moved to the Malmundarium since April 2011.
It has been a medical center since 2015.
