    Road cycling

Suggestive stretch of road along the Nera river. Here the gorges have over time formed imposing rock walls on the sides of the road that alternates between bridges and short tunnels and runs along the border between Umbria and the Marches.

    2,030m

Embark on a challenging racebike adventure through the Sibillini Mountains National Park and the Castelluccio Plain, starting from Norcia. This difficult loop covers 49.1 miles (79.1 km) with a significant 6642 feet (2024 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking around 4 hours and 43 minutes. You will climb through rugged peaks and deep valleys, experiencing dramatic landscapes and passing ancient hilltop villages. A highlight is the spectacular flowering of the Castelluccio Plain between May and July, transforming the area into a vibrant mosaic of colors.

This route is best suited for experienced cyclists with very good fitness levels due to its demanding nature. You will encounter several hard climbs, including a 10-kilometer ascent to Forca di Gualdo with an average gradient of 7%. While most surfaces are well-paved, be prepared for some unpaved segments that can be difficult to ride. Consider that guided tours suggest up to 9 hours for the full experience, including breaks, so plan your day accordingly.

Beyond the physical challenge, the trail offers a rich cultural and natural experience. You will pass through charming medieval villages like Preci, Visso, and Castelsantangelo sul Nera, offering a glimpse into untouched Italian charm. The route also takes you across the regional border into the Marche region and showcases the rich biodiversity of the Sibillini Mountains National Park, home to species such as the wolf and golden eagle.
