With a history of about 1800 years Chengkan Village still has most of its original layout. The streets and alleys feel like a maze and the buildings are beautiful Hui style architecture.
Chengkan has still retained a lot of its original charme (and I hope it will not be ‘over-developed’). The village is worth stopping for and exploring when you are in the area. The main entrance and ticket office is towards the south end of the village - or you try and circumvent and enter from one of the smaller roads at the north.

Chengkan Village has a history reaching back 1800 years - and still has most of its original layout. The small streets and alleys feel like a maze, and the buildings are a prime example of the Hui style architecture (white walls, grey tiles).
Chengkan is not (yet) as developed, thus has a local charme and is (currently) less touristy.
If you are cycling in the area, this village is worth stopping for and some discovery. The main entrance (and ticket office) is at the south end parking lot.
