Here you can sniff the history of herring fishing. A typical boat is displayed in a shed, which also serves as a shelter in bad weather.
You can also see the statue "Kenn and the Salmon" from the book "Highland River" by Neil M. Gunn. Some old buildings also remind of the processing of herrings by the women of the fishermen.
On the other side of the bay is the swanky white Dunbeath Castle.

Mountain biking
Dunbeath village and its harbour was built for fishing herring during the boom in the early 1800s with up to 100 boats operating from here. With the boom long gone the harbour is much quieter now but is still worth a visit to see its expansive views including Dunbeath Castle.
