The Alameda Trail – Paseo del Bosque Trail loop offers a delightful, easy escape into Albuquerque's riverside "Bosque." This 2.9-mile (4.6 km) hiking route winds through lush cottonwood forests, providing ample opportunities to spot local wildlife like ducks, geese, and sandhill cranes along the Rio Grande. With only 22 feet (7 metres) of elevation gain, it's a flat and pleasant journey that takes just over an hour, perfect for a relaxed outing.
Accessing the loop is simple, with parking available at various points, including near the Alameda Boulevard bridge. You'll find convenient restroom facilities at the Alameda access on the southeast side of the bridge. This trail is suitable for all seasons, but the vibrant yellow foliage in autumn makes it an especially picturesque time to explore.
This loop is a crucial link in the city's trail network, connecting major routes and offering a continuous off-road experience across northern Albuquerque. Its multi-use design means it's highly accessible for walkers, runners, cyclists, and even those with wheelchairs, making it a truly inclusive outdoor option. The trail also provides access to attractions like the Rio Grande Nature Center, enhancing its appeal beyond just a simple hike.
