    Hiking

Walk past the Upper View and be sure to overcome the few additional meters of altitude to get under the falls. The view from below is much more impressive. On the left side of the river you can walk down about 50m to get to the water under the waterfall without getting your feet wet.

Embark on the Rose River Loop Trail for a moderate hiking experience through Shenandoah National Park. This 5.2 miles (8.4 km) route takes you along the Rose River and Hog Camp Branch, offering continuous views of small waterfalls and cascades. You will gain 1402 feet (427 metres) in elevation over approximately 3 hours and 22 minutes, making it a rewarding journey for most hikers. The highlight is the impressive 67-foot Rose River Falls, set within a lush deciduous forest, where you will encounter varied terrain from dirt paths to rocky sections.

To begin your adventure, access the trail from the Fishers Gap Overlook on Skyline Drive. Parking is conveniently available at the Dark Hollow Falls Parking Area, providing a straightforward starting point. Before heading out, always check for current trail conditions, as factors like mud or ice can affect the route's difficulty and your overall experience. Planning your visit during favorable weather will ensure a more enjoyable hike.

This loop is notable for its abundant water features, making it a refreshing escape into nature. Beyond the main trail, you have the option to take a short detour to the stunning Dark Hollow Falls, adding another beautiful cascade to your trip. The continuous presence of the river and its many falls creates a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere, setting this trail apart as a prime example of Shenandoah's natural beauty.
