The upper structure, most recently used as a chapel by the Michaelsbruderschaft, was demolished in 1792.
During archaeological excavations, the underground ossuary from the 13th century was rediscovered. The substructure has been renovated and can be visited. Here you can see the bones of approx. 5000 people, which were artfully stacked as a "memento mori" (Latin for "remember death").
