Hiking

Writer Willem Elsschot, pseudonym of Alfons Jozef de Ridder (born 1882), regularly spent his childhood holidays with his family in Blauberg. His aunt lived in the house next to what is now the café De Verlossing. He took his pen name from the Helschot nature reserve in Blauberg, where he often went for walks. On the 30th anniversary of his death, a small statue was placed at the church in 1990. This statue is the work of local artist Joris Peeters.
