The monastery, consecrated to Saint Francis, was founded in 1723 by Count Lothar Franz von Schönborn as a Capuchin monastery. In 1825 the Franciscans took over the monastery. Polish priests have been looking after it since 2006.

Franciscan brothers are the ones who work and live in the Capuchin monastery founded by Prince-Bishop Lothar Franz von Schönborn in 1723. In the course of secularization in 1802/03, the monastery was not dissolved like elsewhere, but served as a dying monastery. In 1825, brothers from the Bavarian Franciscan province came to Gößweinstein, but had to abandon the monastery in 2006. Since 2006, brothers from the Breslau Franciscan province of St. Hedwig have been looking after the pilgrimage church and parish.

It is the Franciscan brothers who work and live in the Capuchin monastery founded by Count Lothar Franz von Schönborn in 1723. In the course of secularization, the monastery was not dissolved like elsewhere, but served as an extinct monastery. In 1825, brothers from the Bavarian Franciscan Province came to Gößweinstein, who had to give up the monastery in 2006. Since 2006 the brothers of the Wrocław Franciscan Province of St. Hedwig have looked after the pilgrimage church and parish. (Source: pfarrgemeinde-goessweinstein.de/arbeiter/)
