This old stone still dates from the time when the Margraviate of Brandenburg-Bayreuth and the Duchy of Saxony bordered each other here before 1810. This can be seen from the still recognizable engraving on the stone: the today Bavarian side shows the "Brandenburg Eagle" with the quartered Hohenzollern shield, thus referring to the historical affiliation of Kleintettau to the Margraviate of Bayreuth. The today Thuringian side shows the coat of arms of the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen.
