In Wildberg gliders were already in use before the Second World War. After the flight ban in Germany was lifted after the Second World War, glider operations started up again in Wildberg. But only after the aircraft hangar, built in 1954, burned down completely after an arson attack, flight operations were relocated to the site of today's airfield.
