In the Middle Ages, the castle of the lords of Ursin was located on this site. The Irse abbot Matthias Steinbrucker probably had it rebuilt in 1482.

The Cemetery Church of St. Stephen
The church was built in 1486 under Abbot Mathias Steinbrucker and Vogt Hans von Benzenau and dedicated to Saint Stephen. Since the 19th century, St. Stephen, the "Upper Church", has been owned by the municipality, with the church tower being the landmark of Irsee. From the tower, one can see far into the countryside, and conversely, the tower can be seen from afar.
