    Monticello was designed by Thomas Jefferson and was his main plantation. The 5,000 acres farmed for tobacco and crops using enslaved African people. The building features on the 5 cents coin.

    Together with the University of Virginia, Monticello is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ticket prices vary depending on the guided tour you choose. It's open from 8.30am until 4.30pm during the week and until 5.30pm on weekends.
