The Oregon Coast Trail at Winema Beach offers a wonderfully tranquil hiking experience, guiding you from a short, unpaved path directly onto expansive sandy shores. Here, you'll discover impressive volcanic rock formations, including a distinctive dome-shaped monolith, and even a small cave, all set against panoramic ocean views. It's a serene coastal landscape, often less crowded than other Oregon beaches, making it a perfect spot for a peaceful stroll.
This easy 3.0-mile (4.8 km) hike involves a gentle 296 feet (90 metres) of elevation gain and takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. To make the most of your visit, plan to arrive during low tide; this is when you can best explore the unique rock formations and the small cave. Parking is available at the trailhead, and since it's not a state park, it often feels more secluded.
Winema Beach is particularly notable for its dog-friendly atmosphere, often allowing off-leash exploration as long as your pet is under control. Beyond the unique geological features, it's also a fantastic spot for wildlife viewing, with opportunities to see shorebirds, bald eagles, and harbor seals. The secluded nature of the beach also makes it rewarding for beachcombing, where you might find sea glass or driftwood.
