Mutzig is best known in Western Europe for the Mutzig brewery founded by Antoine Wagner in 1810, which mainly produced pale beers. In 1969, the brewery became part of the Albra Group (L'Alsacienne de Brasserie) and was taken over by Heineken in 1972, becoming Heineken France S.A. in 1980. renamed. In 1989 the site was closed; the annual production was around 600,000 hl. In Schiltigheim, another beer is brewed under the Mutzig brand. The historic brewery building of the Mützig brewery was converted into an apartment hotel.
