51-53 High Street, better known as Moubray House is one of the oldest surviving residential buildings in Edinburgh. The original house was built here by Robert Moubray in 1477, but the existing building is mostly dated to 17th century. You can spot different elements from periods of re-construction across the centuries.
To the front is the Netherbow Well, which formerly supplied water to the Old Town.

John Knox was a reformer and pioneer of the Reformation in Scotland
John Knox was a galley prisoner, preacher and adversary of Queen Maria Stuart. Calvin's thinking shaped the theologian in Geneva. In his native Scotland he is a key figure in the Reformation.
The visitor's brochure states that the house "was only Knox's home for a few months during the siege of Edinburgh Castle, but it is believed that he died here

This house is one of the oldest houses in Edinburgh. It ws built by Robert Moubray in 1477. During the eighteenth century it was a tavern and a bookshop. Daniel Defoe who wrote Robinson Crusoe lived here when he edited the Edinburgh Courant. royal-mile.com/interest/moubray-house.html
