Embark on the Salita al colle dei Ghiacciai del Rosa, a moderately difficult mountain biking route that takes you 7.3 miles (11.8 km) with a significant elevation gain of 2836 feet (864 metres). You can expect to complete this ride in about 1 hour and 55 minutes. Starting from Stafal, the trail guides you along a dirt road near the Lys stream, ascending through larch woods and past ski slopes before reaching the Sant'Anna plain, where you'll find fantastic views of Monte Rosa. The varied terrain includes mixed asphalt, dirt roads, and paths, offering both technical and physical challenges.
This 100% bike-friendly route is best enjoyed between June and October. You begin your ascent from the cable car facilities in Stafal (Gressoney-La-Trinité) at 1850 metres. The initial section is a dirt road, becoming less steep as you progress. After the Sant'Anna Chapel, the farm track gets more demanding, leading you towards the Sitte refreshment point at 2297 metres above sea level. From there, the path continues into the Bettaforca valley, quickly bringing you to Colle della Bettaforca.
The Salita al colle dei Ghiacciai del Rosa is notable for its high-altitude access and the stunning panoramic views it offers. From Colle della Bettaforca, you'll be treated to expansive vistas of the Lys glaciers and many of the 4000-metre peaks within the Monte Rosa range. Along the way, you'll pass historical points of interest, such as the Sant'Anna Chapel, which dates back to 1726. You can return to Stafal by following the same dirt road used for the ascent.
