Embark on an easy hike along the Pacific Crest Trail into the stunning Seven Lakes Basin. This 4.2-mile (6.7 km) route offers continuous, expansive views, allowing you to gaze upon the jagged spires of the Trinity Alps to the west. You will also see the iconic Mount Shasta dominating the horizon as you make your way. With a gentle elevation gain of 426 feet (130 metres), this trail is designed for a relaxed pace, taking about 1 hour and 55 minutes to complete. As you approach the basin, you can discover Upper Seven Lake and other serene alpine lakes, perfect for a refreshing stop.

Your journey begins at the Gumboot Trailhead, conveniently located on the Pacific Crest Trail. This access point makes it easy to start your adventure into the Seven Lakes Basin. While the trail is generally easy, be prepared for potential conditions depending on the time of year. Early in the season, you might encounter patches of slippery snow, so check conditions before you go. Some descents into the basin can also be steep with loose rocks, making appropriate footwear essential for a safe and enjoyable experience.

This trail is notable for offering some of the best viewpoints of the Seven Lakes Basin from the Pacific Crest Trail. Beyond the Trinity Alps and Mount Shasta, you can catch glimpses of Mount Eddy and the Russian Wilderness in the distance.
