This medieval Franciscan friary was founded in the 14th century by the O’Briens of Thomond, who once ruled much of north Munster. It grew into a large foundation with 600 pupils by 1375. It was the last school of catholic theology to survive the Reformation.

The building has a number of exquisite 15th and 16th century sculptures carved into the local hard limestone which are worth seeing up close.

Ennis is the capital of County Clare and has a real character to it with picturesque centres and its narrow, winding streets and historical buildings.

If history isn't your thing, Ennis has long been known as the 'Boutique Capital of Clare' with many tasty eateries, bars and restaurants. With well regarded pubs often playing live traditional music, Ennis certainly has all bases covered hen it comes to a cycle pitstop.
