Several species of peat moss grow on the peat island, such as the sheath cotton grass (Eriophorum vaginatum) and several peculiarities such as the cranberry (Vacinium oxycoccos) and the round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia).
In the Nonnenmattweiher and in its surroundings u. a. following animal species were found: common toad, mountain newt, thread newt, mountain lizard, lemon canary, capercaillie.
The fish stock consists of species such as trout, eel, pike, zander, tench and carp.
