    Hiking

Small mountain pasture still used which leads towards the Moanda hill. A beautiful and little-frequented place as it is a less famous and well-known part of Valsesia than other places. There is a small natural lake.

Embark on a difficult 5.0-mile (8.0 km) hike to Bocchetta della Moanda pass, a journey that typically takes around 5 hours and 34 minutes to complete. You will gain 3562 feet (1086 metres) in elevation as you traverse quiet Valsesia valleys, winding through old alpine pastures and across rocky ground. The route offers a mix of pastoral scenery and high mountain views, leading you to the narrow pass where a striking rock monolith stands between Monte Tagliaferro and Cima Carnera.

To begin your adventure, drive to the hamlet of Pedemonte, which is located near Alagna. You will find convenient parking available at the very end of the paved road, marking the trailhead for this route. Plan your visit to allow ample time for the challenging ascent and descent, ensuring you can fully appreciate the remote beauty of this less-traveled corner of Valsesia.

This trail takes you past Alpe Campo, a historic alpine pasture nestled in a basin, overlooked by Monte Tagliaferro and Cima Carnera. Here, you can discover a small natural lake and a CAI social hut. One of the buildings at Alpe Campo dates back to 1578, and a small chapel dedicated to Saint Hubert features a door that was originally part of the first Capanna Margherita built on Monte Rosa in 1893, offering a unique piece of local history.

Embark on a difficult loop tour between Alagna and Rima, a challenging journey spanning 10.8 miles (17.4 km) with an impressive 6712 feet (2046 metres) of elevation gain. This hike typically takes around 10 hours and 50 minutes, leading you through varied terrain including stony paths, grassy slopes, and steep sections with many stairs. You will traverse traditional mule tracks, pass through larch and alder forests, and navigate scree fields, all while enjoying panoramic views of the majestic Monte Rosa massif and glimpses of Monte Tagliaferro.

This demanding route requires experienced hikers due to its arduous terrain and significant altitude changes. While individual sections like the ascent to Colle Mud or Bocchetta della Moanda might be rated medium, the overall loop presents a considerable challenge. Near Colle Mud, you will find Rifugio Ferioli, a mountain hut offering a beautiful terrace with valley views. Be aware that some paths, such as the unmarked trail to Corno Mud from Colle Mud, are recommended only for very experienced individuals.

Prepare for a truly demanding hike on the Monte Tagliaferro Loop via Dosso Grinner, a difficult route spanning 10.7 miles (17.2 km). You will ascend a significant 7632 feet (2326 metres) over an estimated 11 hours and 37 minutes, making this a serious undertaking. As you climb, you will traverse alpine pastures, eventually reaching areas with shattered rocks near the summit. The trail offers expansive panoramic views of Val Sesia and Val Sermenza, with the majestic Monte Rosa often visible. Look for the small natural lake at Alpe Campo, which beautifully reflects Monte Rosa on clear days, adding to the scenic experience.

This difficult route is best suited for experienced hikers who possess strong physical training and a steady foot. The upper sections of the trail are steep and very exposed, so if you experience vertigo, you might find these parts particularly challenging. Always consider your current fitness level and hiking experience before you attempt this ascent. Plan to start early to allow ample time for completion, especially given the long duration.

This loop takes you through Parco Naturale Alta Valsesia, a protected area known for its rugged beauty. From the summit of Monte Tagliaferro, you are rewarded with sweeping views that extend all the way to the great Po Valley. The journey highlights the dramatic alpine landscape of the region, offering a deep immersion into its natural environment. This trail is a notable challenge for those seeking a profound connection with the high mountains.
