The Maximilianswerk is one of the oldest hydroelectric power stations in Bavaria still in operation. It began operations in 1895 after a year of construction. To avoid attracting attention near the Maximilianeum, Carl Hocheder built it in the style of a baroque garden or hunting lodge. The direct current generator connected to the Francis turbine delivered around 300 kW (660 V at 225 A) with a usable drop of 3.30 to 5.70 m and a water volume of between 8 and 15 m³/s.
