The Platte River Trail is a fine paved multi use trail for walking and cycling, following the Platte River. In this section, starting close to the downtown of Denver it leads all the way south Vanderbilt Park.

Especially in the northern part, the trail passes some industrial sites here and there – but also several parks with picnic sites and cafés close by.

Strange Brewing is just off the Platte River Trail at 13th St, solid brewery, good selection of beers, worth stopping by if you need a break.

The South Platte River Trail is a fantastic option for a touring cycling adventure right through the heart of Denver, offering a diverse experience that blends urban landscapes with natural riverside beauty. You'll cruise along a predominantly paved path, passing through various parks like Grant Frontier Park and enjoying glimpses of the Rocky Mountains. This moderate 22.8 miles (36.7 km) route, with its gentle 281 feet (86 metres) of elevation gain, is perfect for a leisurely ride that takes about 2 hours and 7 minutes.

Planning your ride is straightforward, as the trail is well-integrated into the city. You can access it from numerous points along the South Platte River, with many parks offering convenient parking. Public transport also provides good access to various sections of the trail. It's a great year-round option, but spring and fall offer ideal weather for enjoying the varied scenery and the South Platte River Trail's cycling terrain.

This trail is more than just a path; it's a testament to Denver's commitment to green spaces, born from a restoration initiative after a major flood. It connects to an extensive network of other trails, like the Cherry Creek Trail, allowing for longer rides and exploration. Along the way, you'll find amenities, interpretive signs, and even pass by Empower Field at Mile High, making it a route rich in both natural features and local landmarks.
