A biogas plant is a power plant that generates energy biologically from manure or plant material and in which even high-quality fertilizer is produced as a "waste product": The Sudholz biogas plant generates 2.6 million kilowatt hours of electricity from the conversion of 5,000 tons of corn and manure annually - enough to power 650 households of four each year. This saves the environment from emitting more than 1,300 tons of carbon dioxide per year. In order to produce the plant's fuel, 130 hectares of cultivated land are required.
