The Turnbull Debris Basin – Schabarum Trail loop offers a demanding mountain biking experience through the varied terrain of the Puente Hills. You'll encounter a mix of rolling hills, wide fire roads, and technical singletrack, with some sections featuring loose, sandy dirt or rocky patches. The ride provides expansive views of the surrounding hills, urban areas, and even downtown Los Angeles, often framed by seasonal wildflowers and the prominent power transmission towers.
This difficult 28.3-mile (45.6 km) route involves a significant 3866 feet (1178 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking around 4 hours and 29 minutes to complete. Be prepared for sustained climbs, including steep grades on segments like Workman Ridge, and some areas where you might need to push your bike. It's wise to carry ample water, especially on warmer days, and be aware that you'll be sharing the trails with hikers.
