    Cycling

Lookout Mountain is easily the most popular and scenic road within the Denver vicinity. The road is well paved and offers continuous views of mountains and the city. After you pass Windy Saddle Park, you break 7k feet of elevation and enter the evergreen trees. If it is a cold day, this is typically the coldest part of the climb and drops a few number of degrees. Cars are generally considerate going up the road, but cyclists also need to be considerate, so stay single file and be aware of your surroundings.

    Road cycling

Lookout Mountain is the training ground for pros and amateurs alike. After the first set of switchbacks, the road gradient lessens until you get to the Windy Saddle parking lot. At that point you hit some more switchbacks that are relatively steep (but luckily you are almost to the top)!

Golden to Idaho Springs loop via Golden Gate Canyon State Park

    2,420m

Embark on the Golden to Idaho Springs loop, a challenging racebike route that takes you through the stunning Colorado Front Range. This difficult 65.0-mile (104.6 km) journey features a substantial 7939 feet (2420 metres) of elevation gain, promising a demanding yet rewarding experience. You will navigate mixed-surface terrain, including gravel sections, with continuous mountain and city views, especially from the iconic Lookout Mountain Climb.

Planning for this ride requires very good fitness due to its length, significant climbing, and varied surfaces. Expect to spend around 7 hours and 13 minutes in the saddle, so start early to allow ample daylight. Some segments may test your bike handling skills, and wet conditions can make unpaved parts muddy and more challenging. Always check weather and road conditions before you head out.

As you cycle through Golden Gate Canyon State Park, you will be treated to expansive vistas of the Rockies and might even spot local wildlife like mule deer or elk. The descent down Virginia Canyon Road, famously known as the "Oh My God Road," offers breathtaking sights and is a memorable highlight of the route. This loop provides a unique perspective on the region's natural beauty and its rugged terrain.
