Hiking

The pilgrimage church Maria am Birnbaum is an impressive eye-catcher above Wolfsthal, visible from afar. The baroque building with its distinctive towers was erected in the early 18th century and dates back to a Marian devotion on a pear tree. Around the church, you can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and beautiful views over the landscape on the Austrian-Slovak border.

Unfortunately, the builder or founder of the church is not known. The pilgrimage church "Maria am Birnbaum" has been a Marian place of grace since 1737 and was dedicated to St. James (Way of St. James). Originally built as a Romanesque, single-nave church, it was expanded in the years 1744 - 1749 with two side wings in the shape of a cross and baroque.
