With its slate tiles on the outer surfaces, the red-tiled roofs, and the corners of the facade decorated with stones, the construction style corresponds to the Heimatstil that emerged in the 1870s.
Its inauguration took place on October 9, 1910, and it received its name even later.

It is the main church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Bad Steben. The house of worship was built between 1908 and 1910 in the Art Nouveau style with a Heimatstil facade. Inside, there is a Romanesque-Byzantine hall with mighty columns, various ornaments, and decorative medallions.
Together with the Pauluskirche in Ulm, it was one of the first two churches in Germany where reinforced concrete was used extensively as exposed concrete. It has 1,250 seats and has been called the Lutherkirche since 1985.
