The section north-west of here is blessed with the paved Rio hondo bikeway on both sides of the river channel. One bridge at each end of the parallel section helps connect to the other side to continue riding along the river. To the south this is the East bank, to the North-East it is on the North-West bank of the river. If you pass the bridge into the dead-end section you will notice it thanks to the homeless encampment getting denser and eventually closing off the trail ...

The Bosque del Rio Hondo – Rio Hondo Bike Bridge loop offers a unique cycling experience, blending urban landscapes with surprising pockets of nature. As you follow the Rio Hondo channel, you'll discover lush riparian wetlands within the Bosque del Rio Hondo, home to various wildlife like herons and turtles. The route is predominantly paved and flat, making it a pleasant journey through diverse scenery.

This moderate touring cycling route covers 26.5 miles (42.7 km) with a gentle 229 feet (70 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking about 2 hours and 33 minutes. Starting from Lakewood Boulevard, the trail is accessible year-round, and public transport options are available. You'll find amenities like restrooms and picnic areas along the way, and leashed dogs are welcome.

Part of the larger multi-use trail network, this loop connects to the San Gabriel River and Los Angeles River bicycle paths, and even forms a section of the historical Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail. A notable feature is the Rio Hondo Bike Bridge itself, an interesting structure designed to link the trails. Keep an eye out for the chain-link fence 'tunnel' that protects cyclists from remote-control airplanes near a local park.
