In 1270, Archbishop Hildeboldus of Bremen granted Wildeshausen city rights and gave Wildeshausen the property on which the town hall stands today. The town hall was first built in the 14th century as a two-storey hall measuring 20 x 12 m. Over the centuries there have been various conversions and extensions. A thorough restoration took place in 1979. At that time, the upper hall of the town hall was heated, for example, so that council meetings, exhibitions, lectures, receptions and concerts can also be held in it during the colder months of the year.
