The brewery has had its current name since 1871. It goes back to the owner at the time, Frederik Edmond Brand. At the beginning of the 20th century, Brand was one of the first breweries in the Netherlands to market Pils beer. In 1961 Brand became purveyor to the court of the Dutch royal family. In 1989 the brewery was taken over by Dutch competitor Heineken, who in 1992 also assumed the title of purveyor to the court.
