It was built in 1936 to power the entire Nazi compound. Opposite were workers' housing.
After 1945 the building became the property of the city of Nuremberg. The local electricity supplier N-ERGIE had used the technology for power supply until 1998, after which the transformer station lost its purpose due to technical changes. Since June 2006, part of the building has housed a fast-food restaurant and a gym.
