It is a true monument of love, which is why it is sometimes also called the "Lovers' Column".
The column was erected by Count Leonardo di Manzano in memory of his Austrian wife, who was called or nicknamed Aimée. The inscription bears the date 15 August 1880, which coincides with the year of her death.
