Situated on top of the highest hill in the village, the windmill has been there since the early 1800s. The oldest available photograph shows a wedding party gathered for a special photograph in the late 1800s. On 15 April 1945, it caught fire and the wooden structure was completely destroyed.

Windmill Hill is a 13.9ha woodland created by Leicestershire County Council adjacent to Beacon Hill County Park and Broombriggs Farm. The site is in two parts, with one compartment adjacent to Lower Beacon Hill and other by Brombriggs Farm Trail.
