The small Saint-Étienne de Douchanez chapel probably dates from the 12th century and overlooks the Allier gorges on its rocky outcrop. The building corresponds to the old castral chapel, of the old castle of the lords of Douchanez.

Saint Stephen (Saint Etienne) is one of the first seven deacons of the early Jerusalem community and is also the first martyr (martyr) of early Christianity. The church commemorates him on Boxing Day, December 26.
