Around the year 1000, it served as a crucial part of a defensive system, possibly using bonfires to warn against Saracen incursions. Later, it is believed to have functioned as a bell tower for Santa Maria in Prelio. Its strategic location on a hill provides the exceptional panoramic views that make this hike particularly memorable.
